Assunta is a contemporary stitch artist, based in Slaithwaite, West Yorkshire. She creates lace artworks using a forgotten sewing machine lace making technique developed in the 19th Century. It is a slow, hands-on process. Conscious of her impact on the planet she makes use of recycled and discarded materials. Fabric off-cuts from a tailor’s shop, hand embroidery thread, discarded because the intention to learn embroidery was never realised, and recycled polyester sewing machine thread, made from waste plastic bottles, are all transformed into beautiful artworks for your home. Commissions welcomed.
